  • in與at的比較：用於地方時，at指較小的地方，如指城鎮時，in指較大的地方，用於省、國家、大陸前。國際大都市前用at 和in都有，但在London前通常用in。在指說話人的住処時要用in，且一般in表示實在的存在，而at卻不是。說到某大城市的某大建築物，往往在大城市名稱的前麪用at，如the Pantheon at Rome。說到商店、機關、學校等，假使看作一個地點（point)用at。假使看作一個場所(place)用in，the barber's (理發店），Green's (Green所開的店）等前麪衹用at，不用in。說到門牌用at，如live at 1184 Zhongshan Road，路名前麪該用in，而說“在……路口”用at；
  • 用於時間時，可表示時刻，如at night，at three o'clock，at dawn，at any time等。也可表示較短的時期，如at night，at the beginning of the month等，其中at night表示時刻時意爲“在薄暮”，表示較短的時期時意爲"在夜裡"，通常指黃昏或上半夜；
  • at用於信封地址前可指“轉交”。Mike at 99 Zhongshan Road Shanghai. Mike經常不在上海中山路99號，請予以轉交。
  • at用於一些動詞後麪表示某種情緒、非語言交流或攻擊性行爲，如smile at me，point at me，shout at you等；
  • arrive後麪一般都接in或at，而不接to，如When did you arrive in New Zealand?而不是to New Zealand；
  • at five years old和at five miles distant裡用at，可改作at five years of age或at the age of five years和at five miles' distance，這種用法較爲普遍。
